In plain words
51.8% of population
What it is. Internet users counts the share of people in Lesotho who go online, whether on a phone, a computer or another device. The figure usually comes from household surveys or from operator data adjusted to the population, so it follows people who connect rather than the number of subscriptions or the quality of the connection. It says nothing about how fast, how often or for what purpose people are online.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people can reach information, services, jobs and markets online. The latest figure is 51.8% of population for 2024, up from 49% of population a year earlier, a rise of 2.8 percentage points. It is also the highest reading since 2015, when the share stood at 25% of population, so the share has roughly doubled over the window.
Why it matters. With about half of Lesotho's people online, a large part of the population can use mobile money, look for work or follow public information through a phone. The other half is still outside these services, which limits how far firms and government offices can move customer service and payments online. Lesotho's next readings after 2024 will show whether the gain of 2.8 percentage points continues.
