In plain words
36.8% of population
What it is. Internet users measures the share of Mali's population that uses the internet, counted as individuals. It follows people who go online on any device and in any place, so it describes reach across the population. The measure leaves out how often people connect, how fast the connection is and what they do online.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people can reach information, mobile money, public services and distant markets. The latest figure is 36.8% of population in 2024, up from 36% of population a year earlier, a rise of 0.76 percentage points. That is the highest reading since 2015, when the share stood at 10.3% of population. Over that span the share has climbed steadily to its present peak.
Why it matters. At 36.8% of population, most people in Mali are still offline, so online banking, e-commerce and digital government services reach a minority of households. Rural communities and people outside the main towns are the likeliest to miss out. Each further rise widens the customer base for mobile money providers and telecom firms, and extends the reach of public information campaigns.
