In plain words
41.2% of population
What it is. This measure counts the share of people in Nigeria who use the internet, whether on a phone, computer or other device. Figures usually come from household surveys and from operator and regulator data, then are scaled to the whole population. It records whether someone goes online, so it says nothing about speed, cost, data allowance or how often people connect. No methodology is published for this series.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach information, banking, public services and paid work online, so a rising figure is good. The latest figure is 41.2% of population for 2024, up from 40.1% a year earlier, a gain of 1.1 percentage points. Since 2015 the series has climbed from a low of 22.5% of population, and the latest reading is also the highest in that span. No peer ranking is available for this series.
Why it matters. At 41.2% of population, a little over two in five Nigerians are online, so most households still lack regular access. Firms selling or taking payments online reach a smaller market than the population suggests, and people outside the connected group have less access to digital banking, online learning and government services. The state faces a continuing task in extending coverage and affordability to the remaining majority.
