In plain words
60.1% of population
What it is. This measure counts the share of people in Senegal who have used the internet, on any device and from any place, within a recent period. It usually comes from household surveys or from operator and regulator data, so it captures access and use in a broad sense. It says nothing about how fast the connection is, how often someone goes online or what they do there.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach online services, information and work, so a rising figure is good news for this measure. The latest figure is 60.1% of population in 2024, up from 59.2% of population a year earlier, a gain of 0.93 percentage points. That is the highest level since 2015, when the share stood at 21.7% of population, its lowest in the window. Over the period the figure has almost trebled, though the most recent year brought a smaller gain than the long-run climb might suggest.
Why it matters. With about six in ten Senegalese people online, most households can in principle use mobile money, messaging, online classes and public information services. Firms can reach a large customer base through digital channels, and the state can put more services online. The remaining four in ten people are still outside these services, and they are likely to be concentrated where networks and incomes are weakest.
