In plain words
6.8% of GDP
What it is. Manufacturing value added is the value factories create after subtracting the cost of materials and services they buy from other firms. It is shown as a share of total GDP. Because the denominator is the whole economy, the share can shift when other sectors such as oil expand or shrink, even if factory output stays steady. Output from very small informal workshops can be hard to capture in national accounts.
Higher is better. A higher share means more of the country's output comes from making goods at home, which supports skilled jobs and a broader base for growth. The latest figure is 6.8% of GDP for 2025, up from 6.6% a year earlier, a rise of 0.22 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 5.3% of GDP in 2018 to a high of 7.4% of GDP in 2023. The current reading sits well above that low and below the 2023 peak.
Why it matters. At 6.8% of GDP, factories supply a modest slice of Angola's output, so household incomes and public revenue still depend mostly on other sectors. A rising share gives firms more domestic demand for local products and gives workers more openings outside the traditional export industries. A return to the 2023 level of 7.4% of GDP would show whether the latest rise is the start of a lasting trend.
