In plain words
5.2% of GDP
What it is. Manufacturing value added is the value of what factories and processing plants produce, after subtracting the cost of materials and services they buy from other firms. It is divided by GDP, so it shows the weight of making things within the whole economy. Output from firms classed under other sectors falls outside it. The share also moves with the rest of the economy, so faster growth in other activities can pull it down even when factory output rises.
Higher is better. A higher share means more of the country's income comes from producing goods at home, which tends to support steadier jobs and reduces the need to import finished products. The latest figure is 5.2% of GDP for 2025, almost unchanged from 5.2% in 2024, with a rise of 0.03 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 4.6% of GDP in 2018 to a high of 5.4% in 2021. The current reading sits in the upper part of that range, a little below the 2021 peak.
Why it matters. At 5.2% of GDP, manufacturing is a small part of Cabo Verde's economy, so most jobs and income depend on other activities. The steady share suggests local production of goods is holding its place without gaining much ground. The next annual reading will show whether it can return to the 5.4% of 2021.
