In plain words
12.3% of GDP
What it is. Manufacturing value added is the value of what factories produce minus the cost of the materials and services they buy in, shown as a share of the whole economy's output. Processing of farm products counts as manufacturing, while farming itself, mining and services sit in other sectors. Because it is a share of GDP, it moves with the pace of factory growth relative to the rest of the economy.
Higher is better. A higher share means more of the country's income comes from making and processing goods, which tends to bring steadier jobs, skills and a broader tax base. In 2025 the figure was 12.3% of GDP, down 0.63 percentage points from 12.9% of GDP a year earlier. Since 2016 the range has run from a low of 11.3% of GDP in 2017 to a high of 13.4% of GDP in 2021. The latest reading therefore sits close to the middle of that range, about one point below the 2021 peak.
Why it matters. A manufacturing share of 12.3% of GDP means roughly one franc in eight of national output comes from factories, so the sector's health shapes wage jobs in and around Abidjan and other industrial centres. The slip from 2024 gives firms and the state a figure to track: continued falls would point to slower growth in industrial output and tax revenue from it, while a recovery towards the 2021 level would show processing expanding again.
