In plain words
14.6% of GDP
What it is. Manufacturing value added is the value of what factories produce once the cost of the materials and services they buy in has been taken out. It is divided by the whole economy's output, so it shows how much of national income comes from making things such as processed food, drinks, wood products and basic goods. It covers formal and informal production when national accounts capture them, and it leaves out mining, farming and services.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because manufacturing adds value to raw materials at home, which tends to support steadier jobs and a wider base for exports. The latest figure, for 2025, is 14.6% of GDP, up from 12.9% of GDP a year earlier, a rise of 1.7 percentage points. That is the highest reading since 2016. The lowest in the same span was 12.8% of GDP, in 2019, so the latest figure sits at the top of a fairly narrow range.
Why it matters. A larger factory share means more of Cameroon's output comes from local processing, which can support wage jobs in towns and give firms more domestic demand for inputs. For the state, a bigger manufacturing base widens what can be taxed beyond raw commodity sales. The one-year jump is large against a range that moved little since 2016, so the next annual reading will show whether the higher level holds.
