In plain words

7.2% of GDP

What it is. Manufacturing value added is the value created by factories and processing firms after subtracting the materials and services they buy in, divided by the whole economy's output. It is built from national accounts and counts the new value created inside the sector. As a share, it can fall when other sectors grow faster, even while factory output rises. It leaves out the quality of manufacturing jobs and the value of imported goods.

Higher is better. A higher share is better because it points to more local processing of raw materials and a wider range of goods made at home. The latest figure, 7.2% of GDP in 2025, is level with 7.2% of GDP a year earlier. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 6.4% of GDP in 2020 to a high of 8% of GDP in 2023. The current reading sits midway between those two ends.

Why it matters. At 7.2% of GDP, manufacturing is a small part of the Comoros economy, so household incomes and government revenue depend mostly on other sectors. A return towards the 8% of GDP reached in 2023 would mean more goods processed and made on the islands. The next annual figure will show whether the flat reading between 2024 and 2025 continues.
