In plain words
13.1% of GDP
What it is. Exports of goods and services as a share of GDP show how much of a country's annual output is sold to buyers abroad. The figure adds the value of merchandise shipments and services such as transport, travel and finance sold to non-residents, then divides by GDP. It counts gross sales rather than profit, so it says nothing about the imported inputs used to make those goods or about who keeps the earnings.
Higher is better. A higher share means more of the economy earns money from foreign demand, which brings in foreign currency and widens the base for jobs and tax revenue. Cameroon's latest figure is 13.1% of GDP for 2025, down from 15.7% of GDP a year earlier, a fall of 2.6 percentage points. It is the lowest reading since 2016. The highest in that span was 19.9% of GDP in 2019, so the current share sits well below the peak of the period.
Why it matters. A smaller export share leaves Cameroon with fewer foreign earnings to pay for imported fuel, food and machinery. Firms that sell abroad have less of the economy's demand behind them, and the state has a narrower channel for export-linked revenue. Households feel this mainly through the cost and availability of imported goods, which depend on how much foreign currency the country brings in.
