In plain words

29.4% of GDP

What it is. This measure takes the value of goods and services that Chad sells to the rest of the world and divides it by the size of the whole economy. The share moves when export volumes or prices change, and also when GDP grows for other reasons. It leaves out imports and the income that flows back to residents, so it describes how much of the economy faces foreign buyers.

Higher is better. A higher share is better because more of the economy is earning from outside demand and bringing in foreign currency. The latest figure is 29.4% of GDP for 2025, up from 27.7% of GDP a year earlier, a rise of 1.7 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 21.3% of GDP in 2020 to a high of 31.7% of GDP in 2022. The 2025 reading therefore sits in the upper part of its range, a little below the 2022 peak.

Why it matters. With exports near 29% of GDP, a large part of Chad's income depends on what foreign buyers pay and how much they take. That foreign currency pays for imports that households and firms rely on, and it supports the revenue available to the state. The drop to 21.3% of GDP in 2020 shows how far the share can fall when external conditions turn.
