In plain words

24.3% of seats

What it is. This measure counts the share of seats in the national parliament held by women, using figures from the Inter-Parliamentary Union passed on through the World Bank. It covers the lower or single house, the chamber that usually carries the main lawmaking and budget votes. It counts who holds a seat. It leaves out cabinet posts, upper houses and local councils, and it says nothing about which committees or leadership roles women hold.

Higher is better. A higher share means women hold more of the votes and committee places where laws and budgets are decided, so a rising figure is the better direction. Morocco's latest figure is 24.3% of seats for 2025, the same as the 24.3% of seats a year earlier. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 20.5% of seats in 2016 to a high of 24.3% of seats in 2023. The current reading therefore sits level with the top of that range, and it has held there for the last two years.

Why it matters. At 24.3% of seats, women hold a sizeable minority of the votes in the chamber that passes national laws and the state budget. Households see this in who proposes and votes on bills covering family, work and public spending. Firms and the state can expect those debates to include women's voices, though men hold the majority of seats. The figure has stayed flat from 2024 to 2025, so a further rise would need to show up after the next set of seat changes.
