In plain words
$1.5bn
What it is. This measure adds up the money foreign investors put into businesses in Algeria and subtracts what they take out, so the result is a net figure. It covers lasting stakes in local firms, such as new equity, profits kept in the country and loans from a parent company. Purchases of shares or bonds for quick resale are left out. The figure is in current US dollars, so exchange rates and prices in each year affect it.
Higher is better. Higher is better because larger net inflows mean foreign firms are committing more capital to Algerian operations that can add equipment, skills and jobs. The latest figure, for 2025, is $1.5bn, up from $1.3bn a year earlier. That is a gain of $0.25bn, or 19%. Since 2016 the lowest reading was $0.24bn in 2022 and the highest was $1.6bn in 2016. The 2025 figure therefore sits close to the top of its range, just below the 2016 peak.
Why it matters. At $1.5bn, foreign investors are putting far more into Algeria than in 2022, when inflows fell to $0.24bn. For firms, this can mean more partners and funding for projects that the local market alone might not finance. For the state, the inflow brings in foreign currency and supports activity outside government spending. The 2016 peak of $1.6bn is the level to check against in the next annual reading.
