In plain words

$0.6bn

What it is. This measure adds up what foreign investors put into businesses in Cameroon in a year: new equity, profits they leave in the company, and loans from a parent firm to its local branch. Money taken out through disinvestment is subtracted, which is why it is called net. Figures are in current US dollars, so price changes are not stripped out. Shares bought on the stock market and ordinary bank lending are left out.

Higher is better. Higher is better because foreign direct investment brings in long-term capital that pays for plants, equipment and jobs. The latest figure, for 2025, is $0.6bn, down from $0.89bn a year earlier, a fall of 32.6%. That is the lowest level since 2016 and sits at the bottom of the range for the period. The high over the same span was $1bn in 2019.

Why it matters. A smaller inflow means fewer projects financed from abroad, so firms have less new capital for expansion and hiring. The state also has less outside investment to share the cost of building and running large projects. Households feel this most through slower job creation in the sectors that depend on foreign backers.
