In plain words

$0.15bn

What it is. FDI inflows count the money foreign investors put into businesses in Cabo Verde where they take a lasting ownership stake, such as building a hotel or buying into a local company. The figure is net, so money withdrawn by foreign owners is subtracted from new investment. It covers equity, reinvested profits and loans between related companies. Short-term portfolio flows, aid and remittances sit outside it, and because it is in current dollars it is not adjusted for inflation.

Higher is better. A higher figure is better because more foreign capital means more projects financed and more foreign currency entering a small island economy. Inflows reached $0.15bn in 2025, up from $0.11bn a year earlier, a rise of 40%. Since 2016 the range runs from a low of $0.07bn in 2020 to a high of $0.16bn in 2023. The latest figure sits just below that peak and at roughly double the low.

Why it matters. For Cabo Verde, foreign investment tends to flow into tourism, property and infrastructure, which create construction work and jobs for households on the islands. Firms gain capital and partners they could not raise locally. The state benefits from a steadier supply of foreign currency and from the tax and activity these projects generate. The 2025 level shows investor interest has recovered from the 2020 low.
