In plain words
$2.2bn
What it is. This measure counts the net amount foreign investors put into businesses in Angola in a year. It adds new equity, reinvested profits and loans from foreign parent companies, then subtracts money taken out or repaid. Because withdrawals are netted off, the figure can fall below zero when more leaves than arrives. Purchases of shares and bonds on the stock market, and the sectors that receive the money, sit outside it.
Higher is better. More net investment brings capital and foreign currency into the economy, which is why a rising figure is welcome. The latest figure, for 2025, is $2.2bn. A year earlier, in 2024, Angola recorded a net outflow of $1.1bn, so the swing is $3.3bn upward. Since 2016 the 2025 figure is the highest in the range. The lowest was in 2017, when the net outflow reached $7.4bn.
Why it matters. A net inflow of $2.2bn means foreign companies are adding more to Angolan projects than they are taking out, which supports jobs and the supply of dollars in the economy. The state also gains where investment feeds into taxes and royalties. The swing from outflow to inflow covers a single year, so the next annual figure will show whether the inflow holds.
