In plain words
$7.8bn
What it is. FDI inflows count the money foreign investors put into businesses in Guinea over a year, net of money they pull out. It combines new equity, profits kept in the country and loans from a foreign parent to its local arm. Because a few very large projects can dominate the total, the series can jump sharply from one year to the next. It leaves out portfolio flows such as share and bond purchases, and it does not show how much of the money is actually spent inside the country.
Higher is better. More foreign direct investment brings in capital for mines, ports, power and other projects that a small domestic savings pool struggles to fund, so a higher figure is better. The latest figure is $7.8bn for 2025, up from $1.4bn a year earlier, a rise of $6.4bn or 453.8%. That is the highest level since 2016, the start of the window. The lowest was $0.04bn in 2019, so inflows now sit at the very top of their range.
Why it matters. A figure of this size points to large projects under construction, most likely in mining and the infrastructure that supports it. For households the benefit shows up through construction jobs, contracts for local suppliers and tax and royalty income for the state. Flows this lumpy can fall back once a build phase ends, so the 2024 level of $1.4bn is a useful marker for what a quieter year looks like.
