In plain words
19.1% of GDP
What it is. Manufacturing value added is the output of a country's factories and processing plants after subtracting the materials and services they buy in, shown as a share of GDP. It counts the value manufacturers create themselves, so a plant that assembles imported parts adds only the difference between its sales and its inputs. Mining, services and farming are counted in other parts of GDP, and the share also shifts when those sectors grow or shrink.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more of the economy's income then comes from making and processing goods, which tends to support skilled jobs and gives firms more ways to earn beyond raw commodity sales. Gabon's latest figure is 19.1% of GDP for 2025, down from 19.5% of GDP a year earlier, a fall of 0.39 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from 17.5% of GDP in 2016 to 21.6% of GDP in 2021. The 2025 reading sits a little below the middle of that range and well under the 2021 peak.
Why it matters. At 19.1% of GDP, factories and processing plants account for a sizeable part of what Gabon produces, which bears on wages and on tax receipts from that sector. The share is now below the 2021 high of 21.6% of GDP, so manufacturers contribute a smaller slice of the economy than they did then. The next annual reading will show whether the latest dip continues or reverses.
