In plain words
14.9% of GDP
What it is. Manufacturing value added is the value of what factories produce once the cost of inputs bought from other firms is taken out, shown as a share of national output. It comes from the national accounts and covers the processing and making of goods such as food, drink and metal products. Farming, mining and services are counted in other lines. The share can fall when those sectors grow faster, even while factory output rises.
Higher is better. A higher share means more of the economy sits in making and processing goods, which tends to support steadier jobs and a broader export base than raw commodities alone. The latest figure is 14.9% of GDP for 2025, down from 15.6% of GDP in 2024, a fall of 0.66 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 11.2% of GDP in 2021 to a high of 18.1% of GDP in 2022. The current reading sits a little above the middle of that range and well below the 2022 peak.
Why it matters. In Zimbabwe, manufacturing is where local farm and mining output can be turned into goods sold at home or abroad. A share of 14.9% of GDP means factories still carry a substantial part of the economy, though the latest dip shows less ground than a year earlier. For households this shapes the supply of formal jobs and locally made goods. For the state it affects tax revenue and how much foreign currency must be spent on imports.
