In plain words
14.5% of GDP
What it is. Agriculture value added is the output of farming, forestry and fishing after subtracting the inputs used up to produce it, shown as a share of GDP. The share moves when farm output changes and also when other sectors, such as energy, grow or shrink around it. It covers primary production only, so food processing and distribution are counted in other sectors.
Neither way is good in itself. A higher share can come from a stronger farm sector or from weaker output elsewhere, and a lower share can come from growth in other sectors, so the direction alone carries no verdict. The latest figure, for 2025, is 14.5% of GDP, up from 14% of GDP a year earlier, a rise of 0.55 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 10.6% of GDP in 2022 to a high of 14.5% of GDP, so the latest reading sits at the top of its range.
Why it matters. At 14.5% of GDP, farming, forestry and fishing make up a sizeable part of Algeria's output, so harvests and rainfall carry real weight for rural incomes and domestic food supply. A larger agricultural share can also mean less reliance on imported food in a year of good yields. The next annual figure will show whether the share holds near this high.
