In plain words
2.3% of GDP
What it is. Agriculture value added is the output of farming, forestry and fishing after the cost of inputs such as seed, feed and fuel has been taken out, shown as a share of GDP. Because it is a share, it moves with the rest of the economy as well as with harvests and catches. Food processing and trading are counted under industry and services, so they sit outside this figure.
Neither way is good in itself. A higher share can mean an economy leaning on the land and sea, or a good season. A lower share can mean other sectors have grown faster. Either reading depends on the country's circumstances. The latest figure is 2.3% of GDP for 2025, down from 2.5% of GDP a year earlier, a fall of 0.24 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from a low of 1% of GDP in 2016 to a high of 3% of GDP in 2021, so the latest reading sits in the upper part of that range.
Why it matters. At 2.3% of GDP, farming, forestry and fishing make a small contribution to Djibouti's national income. Most household earnings and government revenue therefore come from other parts of the economy. A poor season on farms or at sea would move total output only slightly, though it can still matter a great deal to the households that depend on it directly.
