In plain words
27.6% of GDP
What it is. Agriculture value added is the output of farms, forests and fisheries after the cost of inputs bought from other sectors, shown as a share of GDP. Because it is a share, it moves when farm output changes and also when mining, trade or services grow or shrink around it. It covers the sector's contribution to national output and says nothing about who owns the land or how the income is spread.
Neither way is good in itself. A large farm share can mean an economy with little industry or services, while a small one can mean diversification or a weak harvest, so the direction carries no verdict by itself. The latest figure is 27.6% of GDP for 2025, down from 27.9% a year earlier, a fall of 0.29 percentage points. It is the lowest reading since 2016. The highest in that span was 36.2% of GDP in January 2022, so the share has dropped a long way from its peak.
Why it matters. With 27.6% of GDP coming from farming, forestry and fishing, harvests, timber and river catches still shape much of the income that households in the Central African Republic live on. The state's revenue and the country's export earnings also follow the fortunes of these activities. A further fall would be a good sign if other sectors were growing, and a worrying one if farm output were shrinking, so the next figures should be read alongside total GDP.
