In plain words
7% of GDP
What it is. Agriculture value added counts the output of farming, forestry and fishing after subtracting the inputs those industries buy in, then divides it by total GDP. The share moves with harvests, rainfall and catches, and it also moves when other sectors grow faster or slower. Food processing and other downstream activity are counted in other sectors.
Neither way is good in itself. A higher share can mean a farm-led economy or a smaller rest of the economy, and a lower share can mean weak harvests or fast growth elsewhere, so the direction alone judges nothing. The latest figure, for 2025, is 7% of GDP. A year earlier it was 7.2% of GDP, a fall of 0.17 percentage points. Since 2016 the share has ranged from 6.7% of GDP in 2016 to 9.6% of GDP in 2021, so today's level sits close to the bottom of that range.
Why it matters. At 7% of GDP, farming, forestry and fishing make up a modest part of Namibian output, and most national income comes from other sectors. The 2021 peak of 9.6% of GDP shows how much larger the sector's weight has been in recent years. Households and firms that depend on land and sea feel rain, prices and catches directly, and the national share is an average over all of them.
