In plain words
$287bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in Algeria in a year, priced at that year's prices and converted into US dollars. Because it is measured in dollars, it moves with the dinar exchange rate and with oil and gas prices, as well as with the volume of output. It says nothing about how the income is shared, and it leaves out unpaid work and much informal activity.
Higher is better. A larger figure means a bigger economy in dollar terms, with more income available to spend, tax and invest, so higher is better here. At $287bn in 2025, Algeria's nominal GDP is up from $269.3bn a year earlier, a rise of $17.7bn, or 6.6%. That is the highest level since 2016, the start of the window. The low point came in 2020, at $164.9bn, so the economy is now far above its weakest reading in this period.
Why it matters. A dollar economy of this size gives the state more room to pay for imports, subsidies and public projects, since much of that spending is settled in foreign currency. For households, the rise points to a larger national income, though it does not show how much of it reaches individual pay packets. Firms selling in dinars should remember that this figure also moves with the exchange rate, so it can rise or fall without any change in real activity.
