In plain words

$122.2bn

What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in Angola over a year, priced at that year's prices and expressed in US dollars. Because it is built at current prices, it moves with real output, with inflation and with the kwanza's exchange rate against the dollar. Unpaid household work and other activity outside recorded markets sit outside the total, and it says nothing about how income is shared among Angolans.

Higher is better. A higher figure means more income is being generated for households to spend, firms to invest and the state to tax, so higher is better. The latest figure, for 2025, is $122.2bn, up from $103.1bn a year earlier, a rise of 18.5%. Since 2016 the lowest reading was $58.5bn in 2020 and the highest was $128.2bn in 2022. The 2025 figure sits close to the top of that range and just below the 2022 peak.

Why it matters. A dollar economy of $122.2bn gives the Angolan state a larger base for revenue and makes debt owed in dollars easier to carry relative to national income. For firms, the 2025 level is well above the $58.5bn of 2020, which means a much bigger domestic market when measured in dollars. Because the total is not divided by population, how far it lifts living standards for an average household depends on how many people share it.
