In plain words
$58.9bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced inside Cameroon's borders in a year, priced in current US dollars. Because it is converted at prevailing exchange rates and not adjusted for inflation, the figure moves with the CFA franc's value against the dollar as well as with real output. It counts market activity and leaves out unpaid household work and much informal trade that goes unrecorded.
Higher is better. A higher figure means a larger economy in dollar terms, which gives the country more income to spend, save and tax, and makes its debts easier to carry. The latest figure, for 2025, is $58.9bn, up from $53.3bn a year earlier, a rise of 10.6%. That is the highest level since 2016, when the series stood at its low of $33.8bn. The economy is therefore worth considerably more in dollars than at the start of the window.
Why it matters. A larger dollar economy widens the base from which the state can raise revenue and service foreign-currency debt. For firms, it points to a bigger domestic market, though the figure says nothing about how evenly the gains are shared. Households feel the effect mainly through jobs and prices, so income per person and inflation are worth checking alongside this total.
