In plain words
$4.6bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in Djibouti in a year, priced at that year's prices and expressed in US dollars. Because it uses current prices, the total rises with inflation as well as with real output. Informal work and unpaid household activity are only partly captured, and the total says nothing about how income is shared.
Higher is better. A higher figure means a larger economy, with more income for workers and businesses to earn and more activity for the state to tax. Djibouti's nominal GDP stood at $4.6bn in 2025, up from $4.2bn a year earlier. That is a rise of $0.47bn, or 11.4%. The 2025 figure is the highest since 2016, when the series stood at its low of $2.6bn.
Why it matters. A larger dollar economy gives the government a bigger revenue base from which to service debts and pay for public services. Firms operate in a bigger market, and households have more income in circulation. Part of the 11.4% rise reflects higher prices, so living standards may have improved by less than the headline growth suggests.
