In plain words
$3.1bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in the Central African Republic in a year, priced in current US dollars. Because it is measured at current prices and converted into dollars, it moves with inflation and exchange rates as well as with output. Much activity in farming, informal trade and subsistence production is hard to count, so the total is an estimate with wide margins.
Higher is better. A larger figure means a bigger economy in dollar terms, which gives the country more income to spend, tax and invest, so higher is better. The latest figure, for 2025, is $3.1bn, up from $2.8bn a year earlier, a rise of 11.4%. That is also the highest level since 2016, when the series stood at its low of $1.8bn.
Why it matters. For a country of this size, $3.1bn sets the ceiling on what households can earn and what the state can raise in taxes to pay for services. A larger economy gives the government more room to fund budgets and gives firms a bigger domestic market. Because the figure is in nominal dollars, price rises and currency moves account for part of the gain, so the improvement in living standards may be smaller than the headline suggests.
