In plain words
$1.8bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of all goods and services produced in Comoros in a year, priced at that year's prices and expressed in US dollars. Because it uses current prices, it moves with inflation and with the exchange rate against the dollar as well as with real output. It leaves out how income is shared and the value of unpaid household work.
Higher is better. A higher figure is better because it means more output and income in the economy to spend, save and tax. The latest figure, for 2025, is $1.8bn, up from $1.6bn a year earlier, a rise of 12.7%. Since 2016 the series has run from a low of $1bn in 2016 to a high of $1.8bn, and the latest reading sits at the top of that range.
Why it matters. A larger economy gives the Comorian state a bigger base from which to collect revenue and a larger denominator when debt and deficits are judged against output. For households and firms, growth of this size in dollar terms points to more money circulating in the economy. How much of it reaches individual incomes depends on population growth and prices, which are worth checking alongside this figure.
