In plain words
$16.3bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in the Republic of the Congo in a year, priced at that year's prices and converted into US dollars. Because prices and the exchange rate feed straight into it, the figure can rise with inflation or a stronger currency even when output is flat. It leaves out how income is shared among households and most unpaid work, and it cannot separate real growth from price changes.
Higher is better. A higher figure means a larger economy, which gives households more income to draw on and the state a wider base to tax. The latest figure, for 2025, is $16.3bn, up from $15.7bn a year earlier, a rise of 3.7%. Since 2016 the series has ranged from a low of $10.9bn in 2016 to a high of $16.3bn in 2025. The latest reading therefore sits at the top of its range for that span.
Why it matters. A dollar economy of $16.3bn gives the government a bigger base from which to collect revenue and service debt that is owed in dollars. For firms, a larger economy means more domestic demand to sell into than in 2016, when output was valued at $10.9bn. Because the measure is in current dollars, households will feel the gain only to the extent that prices and incomes have moved in step.
