In plain words

$91bn

What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the market value of everything produced inside DR Congo in a year, priced at current levels and converted into US dollars. Because it uses current prices and exchange rates, it moves with inflation and with the value of the Congolese franc as well as with real output. Activity that never enters official records, such as much informal trading and subsistence farming, is only partly captured.

Higher is better. A higher figure means a larger pool of income and production, which gives the economy more capacity to pay wages, fund public services and service dollar debts. The latest figure is $91bn for 2025, up from $75.7bn a year earlier, a rise of 20.2%. Since 2016 the low was $37.5bn in 2017, and the 2025 figure is also the highest in that span. The economy therefore sits at the very top of its own range.

Why it matters. A dollar economy of $91bn gives the state a wider base from which to collect taxes and mining revenues, and makes dollar-priced import bills and external debt easier to carry. Firms selling into the domestic market face a larger market measured in dollars than at any point since 2016. The figure is a national total, so how much of the gain reaches households depends on how it is shared across the population.
