In plain words

$365.3bn

What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in Egypt in a year at that year's prices, then converts it into US dollars at the exchange rate of the day. The dollar total therefore moves with the Egyptian pound as well as with output, so a weaker pound lowers the figure even when activity in pounds grows. It carries no adjustment for inflation and gives no view of how income is shared.

Higher is better. A higher figure means a larger economy measured in the currency Egypt uses to pay for imports and foreign debt, which is why higher counts as better. The latest figure, for 2025, is 365.3 USD bn, down from 389.1 USD bn a year earlier, a fall of 6.1%. Since 2016 the lowest level was 248.4 USD bn in 2017 and the highest was 476.7 USD bn in 2022. The 2025 figure sits well above that low and remains short of the 2022 peak.

Why it matters. Egypt buys much of its fuel, food and machinery abroad and owes part of its public debt in foreign currency. A smaller dollar economy makes those bills heavier relative to national income. Households feel this through the price of imported goods, and the state through the cost of servicing external debt.
