In plain words

$30.1bn

What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced inside Mali's borders in a year, priced in current dollars. Gold, cotton and agriculture feed into it, along with services and informal trade that are harder to count. Because the total is converted into dollars, it moves with exchange rates and price levels as well as with real output, and it says nothing about how income is shared.

Higher is better. A larger nominal GDP means a bigger economy in dollar terms, which gives a country more capacity to pay for imports, service debt and fund public spending. The latest figure is $30.1bn for 2025, up from $26.8bn a year earlier, a rise of $3.3bn or 12.4%. That is the highest level since 2016, when the series stood at its low of $16.7bn.

Why it matters. At $30.1bn, Mali's economy is considerably larger in dollar terms than it was at the start of the window, which widens the base from which the state can raise revenue and borrow. The gain does not tell a household whether it is better off, since prices and population also matter. Firms that import fuel, machinery or food and pay in dollars are most directly affected by the exchange rate behind this figure.
