In plain words
$21.6bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced in Niger in a year, priced in current US dollars. Because it is converted at prevailing exchange rates, it moves with prices and with the CFA franc's value against the dollar as well as with real output. It counts market activity and estimated farm output, and it says nothing about how income is shared or about unrecorded informal work.
Higher is better. A larger figure means a bigger economy in dollar terms, which gives the country more capacity to pay for imports, service foreign debt and raise tax revenue, so higher is better here. The latest figure for 2025 is $21.6bn, up from $19.7bn a year earlier, a rise of 9.7%. Since 2016 the low was $10.3bn in 2016, and the 2025 figure is the highest in that span. Niger's economy has roughly doubled in dollar terms over the period.
Why it matters. A dollar economy of $21.6bn gives the state a wider base for revenue and a better footing when it borrows or negotiates with creditors. For households the gain depends on population growth and on how far prices have risen, since a bigger total is shared among a fast-growing number of people. Firms that import fuel, machinery or food gain when the larger dollar economy reflects a steadier currency and stronger export earnings.
