In plain words
$2.4bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of everything produced inside Seychelles in a year, priced in current US dollars. Because it uses today's prices and today's exchange rate, it rises with real output, with inflation and with any strengthening of the rupee against the dollar. For an island economy built around tourism and fishing, the figure also moves with visitor spending and fish export prices, and it leaves out unpaid work and informal activity.
Higher is better. A larger economy gives a country more income to spend, tax and save, and it makes debts and fixed costs easier to carry, so higher is better for this measure. The latest figure, for 2025, is $2.4bn, up from $2.2bn a year earlier, a rise of 7.1%. That is the highest level since 2016. The lowest point in the same span was $1.4bn in 2020, so output measured in dollars has grown well beyond that trough.
Why it matters. A GDP of $2.4bn means the economy has fully recovered from the 2020 slump, when travel stopped and tourism earnings fell sharply. For households, a bigger economy generally supports jobs and wages in hotels, restaurants and transport. For the state, it widens the base for tax revenue and makes public debt a smaller share of national income.
