In plain words

$7.5bn

What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the market value of everything produced in Sierra Leone in a year, priced at current levels and converted into US dollars. Because of the conversion, the figure moves with output, with price changes and with the leone's exchange rate. It is a single total for the whole economy, so differences between richer and poorer households sit hidden inside it, and it is not divided by population.

Higher is better. A higher figure is better because a larger economy in dollars means more income in total to spend, tax and invest. The latest figure, for 2025, is $7.5bn, up from $7bn a year earlier, a rise of $0.49bn or 7.1%. Since 2016 the lowest level was $5.7bn in 2017. The 2025 figure is also the highest in that span, so the economy sits at the top of its range.

Why it matters. A bigger dollar economy gives the state a wider base to tax and a firmer footing for paying for imports and servicing debt in foreign currency. For households the rise in the total only helps if it reaches wages and jobs, so local prices and pay are the next things to check against the 7.1% gain.
