In plain words
$60.2bn
What it is. Nominal GDP adds up the value of all goods and services produced in Sudan in a year, priced at current market prices and converted into US dollars. Because the conversion uses the exchange rate of the day, the dollar total moves with prices and the value of the Sudanese pound as well as with the volume of output. It leaves out the quality of what is produced, how income is shared and most unpaid household work.
Higher is better. A higher figure is better because a larger dollar economy means more income to spend and more capacity to pay for goods and debts priced in dollars. The latest figure, for 2025, is $60.2bn, up from $49.7bn a year earlier. That is a rise of $10.5bn, or 21.1%. Since 2016 the lowest level was $27bn in 2020 and the highest is the current $60.2bn, so Sudan sits at the top of its own range for the period.
Why it matters. A dollar economy of $60.2bn sets the scale for what Sudan can afford to import, such as fuel and wheat, and for the base on which the state can raise revenue. A rise of 21.1% over a year gives households and firms a larger pool of income in dollar terms. Prices and the exchange rate feed into this total, so the next annual figure will show whether the gain holds.
